This week I started work on Tuesday in the office at Revolution Foods. I had no idea what to expect on my first day, so I decided my first goal of week one would to be a sponge. For the past two days, I have been soaking up information from the people I'm working with and the experiences I've already had, and I plan on keeping this sponge formation for the next 2 weeks. On Tuesday, I arrived at the office, toured around, and then was taken to see all around the warehouse where all the food is prepared fresh, everyday (how cool!). I then met with one of my main supervisors to go over some of the projects that I will be working on for the coming weeks. I will be researching articles about existing perspectives and viewpoints on school lunch, the most impactful programs and outreach efforts to reach students and teachers, and review existing Nutrition Education programs and what is compelling about each of them. I will also be helping out with other side project and a little bit of busy work such as setting up student surveys for offices all around the country. At first, I didn't think it would be very fun to set up multiple weeks work of surveys for multiple cities, but after I was able to have the experience of conducting a survey in a school today, I was able to see how helpful and useful these surveys are. Suddenly, the busy work didn't seem tedious or boring at all. I am truly happy to be helping in any way I can.
Today (Wednesday), I had the opportunity to go to a 6-12 Aspire School in Oakland with one of my other supervisors and another Rev Foods employee, and help out with a sampling of new menu items and conduct surveys about the food they ate for lunch that day. With the help of an iPad, we were able to set up a simple 8 question poll on polldaddy and pass it around the cafeteria for students to take. I learned that it is important to poll students almost immediately after they finish eating in order to ideally receive the most accurate data and feedback. It was such a personally educational experience for me and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to be working directly in a school. It was also very cool to come back to the office after and see the results of the polls. It was at that moment that I really became excited about being at Revolution Foods. Not that I wasn't excited before, but at that particular moment, something clicked and I realized that even if I only contribute a fraction of help or success to the company, it would still be help and I would be happy to be apart of any type of positive contribution!
That being said, I am looking forward to a very successful nest 2 weeks.
